Images as Points of Rest
Welcome to the Nothing Special Gallery, a showcase of photos designed to "transform seeing into contemplation," in the words of Richard Wilhelm from his lectures on The I Ching. Wilhelm suggests that through art, "we might find in the battle of life isolated points of rest, where freedom is feasable, a freedom that may lead onward to things more profound."
--Lectures on the I Ching, The Spirit of Art in Hexagram 22 Pi
In assembling these galleries of a few of my favorite collections, I discovered that street photography from around the world has emerged as my favorite type of photography. Maybe this is because it allows me to connect with and honor people in their own space. Thank you for letting me share my life's journey though photography.
Camino de Santiago, Spain
I needed to travel light, walking a hundred miles. The camera used was a Nikon Coolpix S9500, a small point-and-shoot camera.
Alaska
For these two trips - one summer, one winter, I took the Nikon D3100 with a wide angle and a telephoto lens.
Photography in Nepal
This slideshow was made from photos taken during the trip. Traveling light, my cameras here were the Nikon Coolpix S9500 and my cell phone. The intent was to have reference photos for watercolor paintings.
Elizabethtown / Rt 66 Road Trip
My tendency is to see life cinematically, and a good example was my idea to take the road trip from the movie "Elizabethtown." For the first part of the trip, I went to Elizabethtown on my way to see the total solar eclipse. For the second part of the of the trip, I met my daughter in the Pigeon Forge, Tennessee area so we could visit the Titanic Museum. The final part of the trip took place along historic Rt 66. In Memphis, I made a point of listening to the song "Walking in Memphis" to live the lyrics in a way, and that was fun. I did manage to complete the route laid out by "Claire Coburn" in the movie. Cameras were Nikon DSLR and my cell phone.
